What AI model does this use?
We run BiRefNet, a state-of-the-art open segmentation model that excels at hair, fur, and fine edges. Pro images use the high-resolution variant for even sharper cutouts.
Can I choose which objects to remove?
Yes. Switch to Remove by prompt and type the objects you mean — like "person" or "car" — then choose whether to keep them and remove everything else, or remove them and keep the rest. With several images you can use one prompt for the whole batch or a different prompt per image. Prompt mode is a Pro feature.
Can I fix the cutout if the AI misses an edge?
Yes — every finished image has a Refine button that opens a built-in editor. Restore or erase parts of the cutout with a soft or pixel-perfect brush (down to 1 px), click objects in or out with Smart select, or target areas by typing their name with Text select. Zoom and pan for precision, undo/redo any step, and apply when you're happy. The brush is free for everyone; Smart select and Text select are Pro.
What's the difference to the in-browser Background Remover?
The in-browser tool runs entirely on your device — instant and unlimited, but with simpler models. This AI tool runs on GPU servers with a much stronger model, which makes a visible difference on hair, transparency, and complex edges, and it adds prompt-based selection and the refine editor.
What output format do I get?
A PNG with a transparent background (alpha channel), ready to place on any new background or design. You can rename each file before downloading.
Can I process multiple images at once?
Yes — up to 10 images per batch. Each image is processed in parallel, you can refine and rename them individually, and download everything as a ZIP.
What's the maximum image size?
Uploads up to 15 MB per image. Free results are sized up to 1024 px on the longest side; Pro outputs the original resolution up to 6000 px.
Are my images stored?
Uploaded originals are deleted automatically within 48 hours. If you're signed in, finished cutouts are saved to your My Files storage; anonymous results are removed after 30 days.
How many credits does an image cost on Pro?
One AI credit per image — the same credit pool used by AI Create. The prompt and smart-select tools also cost 1 credit each time they run. Pro includes a monthly credit allowance.
